An AudioPen alternative that files your notes and tasks
AudioPen turns what you say into clean text, rewritten in the style you choose. Timbre starts from the same gesture on Android: you talk, it writes. Then it files your notes into folders, picks out the tasks with their reminders, and costs from $3.99 a month*.

What AudioPen’s reviews say
AudioPen is rated 4.1 on Google Play. Of its 89 most recent English reviews, 24 give one or two stars. Two complaints stand out.
- Paying up front. “$100 is insane to be able to do more than just 10 notes,” one user wrote in August 2026. Another would pay $10 a month to try it, but not $99 at once.
- Signing in. Four reviews describe a sign-in code sent by email that never arrives.
These are testimonials, not measurements. They show what stops people before they even get to try.
What AudioPen does better
- It runs everywhere. Computer, iPhone, browser and watch. Timbre is Android only for now.
- It rewrites in your style. A message, a post, an email: rewriting in styles is the heart of AudioPen. Timbre cleans up a dictation without changing its tone.
- It transcribes offline. AudioPen offers on-device transcription. Timbre keeps the dictation and transcribes it when the network comes back.
- It keeps little. According to its policy, audio is deleted within 48 hours. Timbre keeps the audio on your phone, so you can listen again.
What Timbre does differently
- Month to month. $3.99* to start, no commitment, cancel in Google Play.
- Long dictations. Up to an hour in one go.
- Notes that stay organized. Folders, automatic titles, search down to the text of each dictation, and the audio next to the text.
- Tasks that ring. “Analyze the note” picks out what needs doing. Give a task a date and time, and Timbre reminds you right on time.
- Your notes stay with you. Notes and recordings are stored on your phone. Transcription and AI run in the European Union. The details are in the privacy policy.
- Sign in with Google. No code to wait for by email.
Pricing
Timbre is paid monthly, by the minute: $3.99* for 60 minutes, $6.99* for 180 minutes, $14.99* for 600 minutes. Minutes count the transcription of your dictations and the AI’s work. Ten minutes are offered when you create your account, with every feature.
AudioPen Prime costs $33 for three months, $99 a year or $159 for two years on its website. According to its pricing page, it is sold in Google Play at its own price, which the page does not give. If you dictate more than twenty minutes a day, compare carefully: Timbre counts minutes.
* United States price, before sales tax. Prices vary by country and region: the price shown in Google Play at checkout applies.
Which one to pick
- Timbre if you are on Android and want organized notes, tasks with reminders, and a monthly plan.
